Zhang Xiaoliang: Instead of internship, direct signing

2024-12-17

Since I decided to go to Germany, I have experienced a lot and grown a lot in the process of learning German, arriving in Germany and applying for a job. It can be said that the experience is rich, the process is bumpy. Today I will talk about my experience and understanding.

class

In Germany, classroom tasks are mostly in the form of groups, and we work together in groups of two or three to solve the teacher's classroom tasks. I personally feel that, especially in the face of relatively not very complicated and abstract topics, it is most beneficial to improve the language by interacting with classmates and expressing their opinions together. In the face of some more abstract topics, it is relatively difficult to express ideas and interact. But it is always worth trying, and from past experience, as long as you can simply express yourself slowly, classmates and teachers will still actively and patiently guess what you mean. And most of the time, students can guess what you're trying to say.

In terms of the classroom atmosphere, some aspects were completely different from the classroom atmosphere I experienced in China. For example, as a student, you have the right to refuse requests and assignments given by teachers. If students feel that it is not appropriate, they will express their opinions directly and clearly. This is relatively rare in Chinese classrooms. The way people express their opinions in class is direct and relaxed. Teachers rarely interfere with the "classroom freedom to speak" between students and rarely manage the classroom order. Of course, when the teacher or other students speak, the teacher will still ask everyone to be quiet. But in general, teachers give students a lot of freedom.

Most of the time, the communication with teachers is smooth. Talk to your teacher about problems and difficulties. The teacher will help you deal with them. At least the teacher will know that you are trying to keep up. When interacting with classmates, I think we should try our best to throw the topic according to what we are really interested in, instead of asking some unnecessary questions rigidly in order to exercise our language. Your curiosity about others will be transmitted through language, even if it's in a less clear and unfamiliar foreign language.

I got a good score in the final exam of the first semester. My experience is that I must read the materials given by the teacher before and after class and look up the new words that I am interested in. Most of the time, the teacher will hand out some materials in class. German students read very fast. It often happens that before I get halfway through the book, my German classmates have already finished it and started discussing it. However, with the continuous adaptation to the classroom mode and the strengthening of my ability to guess the meaning of new words, my reading speed has also improved to a certain extent.

The workplace of the future

work

When it comes to job hunting, be sure to finish and polish your resume and application letter as early as possible. There are only a few training positions in an enterprise each year. Many companies start hiring a year to six months in advance. During the interview, the two most important things that companies want to know about you are internship experience and German language skills. Sometimes there is a written test in addition to the interview. It asks you to do some shallow or deep problems that you may encounter during training. Not too difficult, in German, of course. It has to do with the career you're training for. For example, if I'm looking for a job in automotive mechatronics, most of the questions I get are related to physics and math.

Of course, talking to HR is very important. This must be carefully prepared. In this regard, Dr. Wang of the German Education Union provided me with relevant help, so that I could prepare for the interview in advance and be more confident when facing HR.

In terms of finding a job, I think you should learn German in conjunction with the career direction you are training for. For example, if I want to learn automotive mechatronics, I will understand in advance how to express the tools of car repair, the components of the vehicle, the relationship between the various systems and how to express the common failure phenomena. Videos and pictures can be found online. Personally, I think this is the most targeted study. And you will be motivated to learn, because it is closely related to your next work, study and life. Now I recall the one-month internship in the maintenance department some time ago, feeling a little tired but very fulfilling. Practice during the day, watch videos at night, and look up German expressions. Sometimes things learned in the evening can be used the next day. In a word, study and practice are closely related.

Finally, some advice for the next students to come to Germany. In terms of German, my personal advice is to listen more, preferably listening to some interesting stories and novels in German audio books. Most of us have had the experience of being captivated by the vivid plot of a novel. Audio novel and German combination, find a simple point to start, listen to many times, even if there are a lot of new words can follow the plot bold guess. The sense of language is imperceptibly improved. And watch more professional videos in German. After reading a lot of expressions, they are printed in my mind, and even if I cannot express them actively, I can improve my understanding of professional courses in the future.

Just come here because everyone's situation is different, more or less will encounter some difficulties. But the good news is that most problems can be overcome if you face them positively and ask your classmates and teachers for help. I hope you can adjust your attitude and face the future study and life in Germany with a normal heart. I hope my sharing will give you some reference.
